Sunday School Weekly Update - March 12

March 12, 2017

Dear Families of the Children in our Grade School Class,
Our scripture lesson for the second Sunday in Lent was Genesis 12: 1-4a. We discussed two aspects of this passage. First, the command by God to Abram and Sari to leave their home, friends, and family and move to a place unknown to them. We saw that any move, even a short vacation, takes planning and sometimes hard work.  The second focus of our discussion was that God had told Abram to move. This meant that Abram made a practice of listening to God.
We played a listening game with the children. The teachers were quite encouraged with the result. When they were told that success in the game meant they had to listen very carefully, they all did, even our boys who look like they never listen to what is going on. Listening to God is also the key to our success in life.
However, listening to God takes practice. A good place to begin is prayer. Prayer is not just talking to God but it is also being quiet in our prayer times and listen to God. Each of us will have unique and different ways to develop these listening skills. I find reading the Bible is a good way for me to explore listening to God. Continuing this discussion might be an area of exploration for you to do with your children in this season of Lent.
Looking forward to being with you next Sunday. Have a blessed week.
Your Sunday School Teachers at Sixth.
