Celebrating Teachers

I think everyone can name a teacher that has inspired them. One of my favorite teachers was actually one of the hardest teachers I had in high school. She taught English literature and despite making us work hard and giving impossible tests, she inspired in me a love for reading and the value of not giving up on a story just because you don't "get it" right away.

Teachers are special. I know more than a handful of people that have chosen their course of study or vocation based on the experience they had with a certain teacher in a certain subject.

People who teach in a church setting are extra special! Sunday school teachers volunteer - and spend time each week preparing a lesson just because they want to pass along their faith to others.

Sixth Presbyterian Church has partnered with an organization called Shepherding the Next Generation Pittsburgh and will recognize and honor our Sunday school teachers and the teachers in our congregation this Sunday (April 27) during the Children's Sermon.  All the teachers present will be recognized and given a small gift provided by the organization.

Shepherding the Next Generation Pittsburgh is an organization that partners with clergy and church leaders who advocate for children who are at risk, support parents in their role as their child's first teacher, and celebrates teaching as a calling.  You can find out more about the organization here:
