Youth Group!

Back to School time!  Hope everyone has had a safe and happy summer! I have had a great time getting w to know you all over my first 8 months here at Sixth! It’s time to do some planning for the future church year.

First, we will have a youth Sunday school class (more like a gathering, rather than a class) during the Sunday school hour each week (9:50 to 10:45)  in the Parlor.   Youth in 7th through 12th are invited come hang out for discussion (current events, scripture, faith and spirituality topics) and perhaps go together for coffee and donuts somewhere nearby.  Amy Whipple and I will be hosting, along with Cliff Johnson.  Please join us!  Our Rally Day breakfast will be held on Sept. 7 at 9:30 a.m. and regular Sunday school will start Sept. 14.

Thanks to everyone who answered the questions from the Youth Survey.  Here are a few things learned from the survey: (So far there have been 13 survey responses)

  • Ø  The majority of you that answered are interested in having youth activities at least twice a month.
  • Ø  Preferred days for youth activities are Saturday nights and Sunday evenings. Friday nights, Saturday nights, and Sunday after church were a tie for third place followed by a week night (Mon-Thur) which got the least votes.
  • Ø  Almost all of you said that your top priority/interest is in service projects and community volunteering.  Coming in a close second are movie/games nights and outdoor/sports activities.
  • Ø  Almost all of you are interesting in continuing to host babysitting nights at the church either monthly or 3 to 4 times a year.

I think the best way to move ahead in scheduling youth group gatherings and activities is not for me to plan for you – but with you!

I am asking for any interested youth to meet with me at the beginning of each month as a sort of Planning Committee to plan and discuss our calendar activities, service projects, mission trips, etc.

I have planned a few things for you to mark on your calendar to get us started.

  • Ø  Youth Planning Meeting: Sunday, Sept. 7 after church from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.  Those interested are invited to meet at the church and go out to lunch together (somewhere close by) and plan for October/November and begin to discuss mission trip opportunities for next summer.
  • Ø  Back to School Bash: Saturday, Sept. 13, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the church.  Come for food, games, fellowship, and of course fun.
  • Ø  Service Project: Wednesday, Oct. 1. From 5 to 8 p.m. Cook and serve dinner for residents of East End Community House, East Liberty (more details about transportation, etc. will be provided closer to the date.)

  • Please RSVP to me if you can attend any of the above. Jennyrunew@gmail.com
