Esther's Story

Sunday, September 27, 2015 is the only day in the three-year lectionary scripture cycle where we get scripture from the Book of Esther.  Our Sunday school curriculum (which is lectionary based) focuses on the readings from James for the week.  Since Esther's story gets so little attention in the lectionary, I wanted to make sure that we did something with our church kids to introduce her.

Her story is challenging for our littlest ones due to the complexity and violence - but as one of the only two women that have their own books in our Bible we shouldn't ignore her and begin to tell her story.

The Lectionary passages for Esther for the week were Esther 7:1-6, 9-10;9:20-22.

If you would to read the story of Esther with your children I recommend using a children's story Bible - like one of the ones I have suggested here.

Here are three story books I found at the Squirrel Hill Carnegie Library:

We read this book - "Queen Esther Saves Her People" by Rita Golden Gelman and Illustrated by Frane Lessac - to the older kids at Extended Session during church on Sunday.
