Reflections: Pentecost

I love a good campfire. It's not even about the s'mores.
Watching a fire burn has always captured my attention.
This Sunday we celebrate Pentecost.

I've always thought that this is such a weird story. Jesus is gone and his followers have gathered. There's the rushing sound of a violent wind and flames that appeared over their heads. They were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages.

The noise and flames captured the attention of a crowd that had gathered and the followers of Jesus were accused of being drunk. But it's Peter who steps in, quotes the prophet Joel, and assures the crowd that this is the work of God - giving the gift of the Holy Spirit.

What in the world captures your attention? Where can you see the Holy Spirit working around you? For me, it's watching campfires burn and being in community with others.

The story of Pentecost reminds us that God is always moving and working among us - trying to capture our attention. #sixthyouth
