Great Things About Great Girls
In celebration of International Women's Day (March 8) ...
Here are some great things about great girls:
I love this book! "Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls: 100 tales of Extraordinary Women" by Elena Favilli is just a beautiful book, It's illustrated by 60 female artists from all over the world and profiles 100 women. Each story is written in the style of a fairy tale with gorgeous portraits. The book was crowdfunded and by folks from all over the world to get it published.
It's available through the Carnegie Library and can be purchased at Amazon.com.
I've never really been a comic book fan, but last year I discovered Ms. Marvel and the Unbeatable Squirrel Girl. Both are smart young women with super powers from the Marvel comic family.
In this version of Ms. Marvel, the heroine is Kamala Khan who is an ordinary Muslim girl from Jersey City. She is suddenly empowered with extraordinary gifts and explores the dangers of her new-found powers,
The Unbeatable Squirrel Girls is about Doreen Green who is just starting college, meeting her new roommate and dealing with fighting enemies all at the same time.
There is also a recently published novel about Squirrel Girl. Read about it here: Unbeatable Squirrel Girl Meets World
I have volumes of these if you want to borrow! Also available at the library, most bookstores, and comic book shops.
