Sacraments Class for Kids

World Wide Communion Sunday is celebrated yearly on the first Sunday in October.   The day before, we held a wonderful sacraments class for our kids to educate them about Baptism and Communion and to prepare everyone for participating in Communion the following day. Toddlers to older elementary age children gathered in the sanctuary to learn about the sacraments, sing together, hear Bible stories and learn about these special times in worship.  We also trained new acolytes and water pourers to get them ready to participate in worship. The highlight of the morning was baking the communion bread that was used the following day during worship.  Enjoy the photos and Communion Bread Recipe below!

Our Communion Bread Recipe

3/4 cup butter
3/4 cup sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup sour milk (we used 1 cup milk and 1 tablespoon of vinegar
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
4 cups all -purpose flour
flour for kneading

Cream butter and sugar together. Add remaining ingredients in the order listed. Mix well.  Each child was given a small (golf-ball size) piece of dough to shape into a small flat loaf. Place on a floured surface and bake for ten to fifteen minutes at 350 degrees.  Each batch makes about 24 to 28 small loaves.
