January Happenings
Happy New Year Everyone!
If you have visited the Sixth Presbyterian website you have seen that we have some interesting programs coming this month!
In commemoration of MLK’s birthday, we will recall some of his actions for justice from 1955—the Montgomery bus boycott—to 1968—King’s assassination in Memphis. Dr. Beverly Gaddy’s brief introduction will be followed by the screening of a 30-minute segment from Ely Landau’s 181-minute acclaimed documentary “King: A Filmed Record…Montgomery to Memphis.” Time for discussion will follow. Dr. Gaddy is a professor of political science at the University of Pittsburgh-Greensburg.
Also on Jan 16 we will be hosting a special program for children (preschool through 5th grade) upstairs while the adult program is going on.
The children's time will include crafts, stories and activities related to Martin Luther King, Jr. and the civil rights movement. We also will be providing child care for infants and toddlers in the church nursery during this time for infants and toddlers. Please RSVP to me (Jenny Newman) by Wednesday (Jan 14) if your kids will be attending or if you would be utilizing the nursery care.
Here are some suggested book titles for kids on the topic. We will be reading some during our event! You can find more info about these titles at http://www.whatdowedoallday.com/2014/01/civil-rights-picture-books-for-kids.html
